Sharon and Andy ~ Paine Art Center wedding

“My Sharona,” he says while flashing a smile her way. She beams as if her heart just melted in his hands. He’s the kindest, most gentle of souls — fully appreciative of the talent she holds at her fingertips. The raw, God-given gifts these two possess are the perfect compliments of each other. She’s a photographer,  he’s a musician. She could probably shoot circles around me and his music will stop you dead in your tracks.

Last year, Sharon contacted me about the possibility of photographing her wedding. I wonder if I pretended well enough to “not entirely know” who she was. I mean, it might have been slightly uncool of me to say, “Ohmygosh I’ve been watching your work for yeeeeeeears, I LOVE YOU!” (You see, I was a newspaper photographer for the first five years of my professional photography career. And Sharon — well, Sharon is pretty much the kind of photographer I wanted to be.) She works at a great paper, she’s well-respected among her peers, and I believe she was the first woman to ever be named Wisconsin Photographer of the Year. (Dang, that’s cool.) She’d never tell you that though, so I must. 😉

We didn’t officially “meet” until Sharon got engaged and a good friend of hers suggested she check out my website. A year and a half later, there I was — shooting her wedding. I tried my hardest to not be a Nervous Nelly about shutter speeds and apertures, or worry about harsh sunlight and flare, or drop a camera and lens while fumbling from one shot to the next … but to just be me. Sharon and Andy were an absolute dream to photograph, considering how amazingly creative they are themselves. Never once did Sharon question what I was doing — she just said, “Do your thing, girl.” So, I did, and for this, I can’t thank her enough.

Pretty, pretty, pretty lady.

I’ll take one of these cars in every color, please.

Sharon and Andy’s cake decorator made personalized cake toppers for the couple. 🙂 Sharon with a camera, of course, and Andy with a string bass.

There weren’t any photographers at this wedding, at all. 😉 Loved it!

Taking pictures in the picture booth … because hey, that’s what we do.

Sugar coma!

Sharon and Andy, it was an absolute honor. I’m so thankful I had the pleasure of documenting your special day. I hope you had an amazing honeymoon, and I’m sure we will see each other soon! xoxo 🙂
