I guess you could say the ball is rollin’. I’m knee-deep in becoming Katie N. Gardner. No turning back now, my dear. 😉
As some of you may know (and most of you may not), I take photos for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Waukesha Freeman a few times a week. I am a former full-time staff photojournalist — newspaper work is my background and will always have a stronghold on my heart. So, in addition to my business, I continue shooting for newspapers in a freelance capacity, and I’m incredibly thankful for the sustained opportunities newspapers bring to my photography journey. This past weekend, though, was a bit of a milestone. It was the first time I picked up the newspaper and saw my married name in print.
“Katie Derksen” has taken me a long way. It took me to Wisconsin, then Florida, then back to Wisconsin again. It brought me into some of the happiest (and saddest), most exciting (and terrifying) moments of my life. Through the years, my newspaper work has introduced me to inspiring, fleeting acquaintances, strangers who have opened their lives to my camera within just minutes of meeting, and friends I’ll treasure for a lifetime.
That said, change is a good thing. 🙂 I’m excited for 2011! I’ll be launching a brand new business name with a beautiful new logo. Within the next month, I’ll be doing a total update to the work you see on my website (it’s about time, right?!). New domains, new photos, new packages, new pricing info, and a new feel. 🙂 So stick with me, fans! I’ll do my best to keep everyone in the loop as things continue to unfold. But until then, I’ll give you a sneak peak of a tiny section of my new logo, to give you some insight into the color scheme …
Drive safe today, friends!
