Baby Ethan ♥ Milwaukee newborn photographer

Christmas is a comin’, folks! You know how I know? Bluemound traffic and … Post Office lines.

With the best-time-of-year quickly approaching, I find myself at the Post Office nearly every other day, mailing out prints and other pretty products just in time for the holidays. And although I may be in good spirits, I’ve realized postal workers aren’t exactly humming Jingle Bells and handing out free candy canes. Every trip I make, I swear … it’s free entertainment.

For whatever reason, people simply cannot grasp the rules and regulations of the U.S. Postal Service. As I stand in line, awkwardly checking e-mails on my phone to make it seem as though I’m not eavesdropping, it happens … again … the workers get annoyed in about 1/8 of a second this time of year, so I thought I’d share a few pointers.

1. You cannot use an unsigned credit card at the Post Office. Period. “See ID” does not fly with these guys. If you attempt to argue, they recite a few lines from the Post Office bible. It’s very intimidating, trust me. Just sign the back, pleeeeease.

2. Ms. Texting Teenager in Front of Me: Priority Mail labels can’t be used on parcel posts packages. And it makes the workers really angry when you retaliate with, “But I just want to send it via regular mail … all I needed was a label.” ‘Regular mail’ isn’t in their lingo.

3. The Zip Line is sometimes slower than the normal line. But it really ain’t cool to jump back and forth between the two. We all see you, you line floaters, even if we’re surfing Facebook while we wait.

4. Tape down the corners of your boxes. If you don’t, they’ll be sent straight to the North Pole.

Follow these tips, and you’ll sail through that line. 🙂 Two and a half more weeks! I can’t wait!

Last week I previewed a tiny Santa Baby on my Facebook page, and this week I thought I’d share a few more photos from little Ethan’s session. This adorable little man took a couple minutes to warm up to my presence, but Mom and Dad fed him an extra bottle and soon enough, he was drunk and sleepy.

This is exactly how I would prefer to sleep at night, too … if only I could find an adult-sized baby blanket!

The next photo is one of my favorite mommy/baby photos yet … these two parents would smile at Ethan, then smile at each other, then smile more at him … they seemed so grateful, which is a beautiful thing to see.

Now, for some business talk! Some of you may be thinking, “When is she going to switch her last name … I KNOW she got married and all!” The time is quickly approaching, my friends. Before winter is over, I will be launching a new website domain, new business name, and new blog address. “Derksen” will be left behind (physically, but not in spirit). 🙂 My Facebook page name will also change, and unfortunately, some Facebook fans will have to be dropped in order to make the transition possible. (It’s so complicated!) But I sincerely appreciate every fan I have, and if you’re dropped from my fan list, I will chase you down, beg for your forgiveness and ask you back. 🙂 I’ve put a lot of thought and planning into what the next steps of my business will be, and I’m really excited for the next month or two. But with change, comes a bit of stress, and with stress, comes a bit of absence in the website and blogging world. My current website has not been updated in quite some time, and this is all in anticipation of new beginnings! I’m really eager to get the process rolling, and hopefully, the transition will be as seamless as name changes can be when the world wide web is involved. 🙂
