Friday’s Frame ~ Gracey ‘n Grandma

Fridays in the Gardner house mean a whole lot of things.

For Tommy, Fridays mean freedom. 🙂 He’s a M-F kind of guy. I think he actually looks at the weather 14 days in advance, just to see what his weekends will bring. God bless those engineers.

For me, Fridays mean prep days. You know, prepping my gear for a weekend full of weddings and sessions. It means finishing up any editing I have left over from the week before, returning emails and phone calls, running to the post office to send a few packages, taking the time to clean my car, or spending a few minutes organizing my office. (In my mind, my office is organized, but in reality, it’s just clean. Organized and clean are two totally different things. Just ask Pinterest.) It’s a day to do all the little things that make me feel prepared and composed when Saturday morning rolls around.

For Gracey, Fridays mean Grandma!

There’s a huge piece of our Friday that remains behind-the-scenes. MY MOM. When Gracey was a few months old, my mom called me up one day and said, “Would you like a little help once a week so you’re able to get some work done?” It sort of sounded like angels singing. “Yes please, I’d love that. Can you be here in two minutes?” (She lives more than an hour away …)

Alas, my mom comes on Fridays. It’s kind of like magic. She plays with Gracey and tends to her needs for a good portion of the day while I tackle my To Do list. Gracey loves it. This also means I’m available to shoot if a session comes up. It’s nice to be able to edit without interruption, return emails and phone calls, or run to the grocery store and bank without pulling over twice because Gracey threw her pacifier (yup, still working on that …). Fridays are my own little slice of relaxation after a week filled with caring for Baby Girl. It’s also a time for me to ask my mom questions that have me totally stumped, like why Gracey eats like a little dinosaur, and whether I’ll ever sleep again.

Thank you, Mom. You have no idea how much I cherish your love and support. This job is a hard one, and I don’t mean photography.

WAIT! You’ve read this far (and you’re not my mom)? Why, thank you! You deserve an extra Friday’s Frame. 🙂 Bonus …

Check back soon for some pics of a super cute 1-year-old I’ll be photographing tomorrow. Have a great weekend!

love,
katie
