“Good Friday’s” Frame ~ Milwaukee photojournalist

Happy Good Friday, everyone!

Last night, I asked Tommy what I should do for Friday’s Frame. He said, “It should be Easter-related. I could go buy you some Easter eggs and you could photograph them … ?”

Bless his kind heart. My eyes peered up, rolled back a bit, and I replied, “That’s why I’m the photographer, dear.”

This past weekend, I photographed a Palm Sunday service at Lake Park Lutheran for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Truth: As photographers, we daydream about what a photo shoot will look like, long before we arrive at the location. I was picturing blue skies, huge flowing palm branches, an outdoor procession … and yes (I’m just being honest here) … I was hoping for a church right next to Lake Michigan. (Lake Park … it’s possible!! Maybe?)

Well, I got my blue skies and outdoor procession. 🙂 Good enough for me.

Easter means a lot of things to me, but one thing I no longer associate with the holiday is … Cadbury Eggs. I haven’t had one this year. Not even a nibble. And in case you can’t tell, I’m pretty darn proud. (This coming from the girl who ate about 12 last year … in a week.) My trick? I just don’t buy them. Not even one. One usually leads to 12. And 12 leads to regret. 😉

In other newspaper-related news, I also noticed this week that an assignment I photographed for The Washington Post ran a couple weeks back. If you’re interested in checking it out, click here. You can look at the photo, but I’d also strongly recommend reading the story. The reporter did an excellent job. Basically, the reporter and I spent a day with Chris Meidt, who is a former assistant coach for the Washington Redskins. When Meidt was dismissed from the Redskins in 2010, he started looking for another coaching position, but with the NFL lockout looming, he couldn’t find a new team. With a wife and three children at home, Meidt couldn’t afford to wait for another coaching job to appear, so he ended up relocating his family to Wisconsin and taking a job as a market manager for Wal-Mart. Although he admittedly makes more money now than he ever did as a coach, it’s apparent his heart still lies in football. Check out the story; it’s a great read.

Have a wonderful Easter, everyone!
