Friday’s Frame ~ Gracey likes to party.

Really? It’s Friday? I’ll take it! 🙂

Welcome back, friends! Today is a BONUS Friday’s Frame — I have something fun to share with you!

This past weekend, Tommy and I embarked on the adventure of throwing a first birthday party. For our child. Who is 1. Waaaaaaa. (That’s me crying.)

I don’t know much about these party things, but I knew a few important components: Fun, family and food.

Sunday afternoon, Gracey woke up from her nap just in time to see our house FILLED with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. I put her in an adoooooorable tutu and she was absolutely confused (but happy) for the next four hours. We didn’t go all-out-crazy on the world’s-largest-party-she’ll-never-remember, but the afternoon was a perfect mix of our pasts and her present. Thank you God for this beautiful, precious child. We simply couldn’t ask for more.

So why are there three cakes plus mini cupcakes pictured below, you might be wondering? Simple: Tommy and I can agree on small decisions such as deciding to become parents, buuuut when it comes to large decisions like picking out a cake … fugetaboutit. 🙂 (And yes, this all was eaten … even if it was just the two of us digging in with a shared fork after Gracey went to bed. Hey, it was a long year … no judging.)

The mini cupcakes were brought by Gracey’s Auntie Sarah and Uncle Mike. (Yummm, Milwaukee Cupcake Company.) The second picture you see — the pinkest, girliest, tastiest Smash Cake ever — was made from scratch by her adoring Uncle Dave! Tommy’s brother, Dave, baked this cake especially for her. (He’s single, ladies.) Dave knows I’m a bit of a strict mama when it comes to what Gracey eats, so he made a healthy cake for her first big taste of sugar. The recipe can be found here! (Dave made the vanilla cake with his own twist — he didn’t use baking soda or powder, he used wheat flour and he mixed diabetic frosting with a little regular frosting.) I’m telling you, friends — from a woman who is pretty darn picky about cake, this was DELICIOUS.

The third picture (second cake) is a butter cream frosted vanilla cake from Metro Market (also yum’licious), and the last cake is Daddy’s Request — a Dairy Queen ice cream cake, which was gone in about … oh, 35 seconds. (Did I really just write three paragraphs about cake? Eh well, life is short.)

Mmmmm sugar. 🙂

This tutu? Yes, I know, it’s ridiculous. And I love every bit of it. Gracey got it for Christmas from the above-mentioned auntie and uncle. It was made by Auntie’s auntie (follow me?) — her business can be found here. 🙂 It’s SO. CUTE.

Thanks for stopping by! Check back soon for last weekend’s wedding. 🙂
