Twenty-three weeks and counting, friends! 🙂
This past weekend, I realized the public doesn’t really understand how to interact with pregnant women. I had heard rumors, but it wasn’t quite set in stone until I experienced the awkwardness myself.
I’ve gotten to the point in my pregnancy where I have a belly that clothes really can’t hide. And this brings a whole new breed of strangers into my life.
Saturday afternoon, I was sending my groceries through the checkout lane — as I swiped my debit card and entered my PIN, I noticed the cashier was moving her head around the credit card machine to look at my belly, then my face. Belly, face, belly, face … belly. It didn’t take long to read her mind: “Is this woman pregnant, or did she just eat 20 pizzas for dinner?” I decided to put her out of her pregnancy misery — I looked up and flashed a smile.
“You have a baby in there?”
“Yes, due at the end of the year.”
“Oh, how nice. Is this your first child, second … tenth?”
TENTH? Wow. I must look extra-awesome today.
“First,” I said with a smile.
As much as I joke about it, as much as I shake my head while walking away … it’s a blessing, really, to be able to carry a baby for nine months. It’s nothing short of a miracle, and I’ll answer all the questions that come my way. Strange looks? Bring ’em on. I have a beautiful baby inside me and I’m super proud. But if you’re a stranger, please don’t touch my belly … or I’ll ask to touch yours. 😉
Today, I wanted to post a few more photos from Jaxson’s one-year session. You may have seen him first in a previous Friday’s Frame. With the busy season in full swing, I’ve gotten a bit behind on my blogging, but trust me, I still have lots to share! 🙂
Happy Almost Fall!
