Megan and Levi — Wisconsin wedding photographer

As I sat down at my table — cameras on my lap, one eye on the wedding party and one eye on my dinner — I couldn’t help but notice: My big brother kept staring at me. Andy and my sister-in-law, Missy, were invited guests to Megan and Levi’s wedding, and I found an open seat across from them to fill my tummy and say hello.

A few normal big brother questions followed … “Where did you go during the middle of the ceremony? I thought your cameras broke!” (I had ducked out the front door to sneak a few pictures a bit closer to the alter.)

No brother, my cameras were fine. But it’s sweet of him to worry, right? I kept eating, and he kept glancing my way.

“WHAT?” I finally said, with my eyes still focused on the bride and groom.

“Do you have a pen?” Andy asked. I opened my camera bag and tossed him a pencil. (I make too many mistakes for ink.)

He picked up his name card and started scribbling. Missy was looking over his shoulder.

Andy tossed the name card across the table. I opened it up and read what he had written: “Missy is pregnant! Shhhh … ”

I stared. He smiled. Missy started laughing. I felt a wave of happiness and love. Little Derksen Number 4 is on its way! Is it bad that I’m already super excited to take adorable little baby photos again?

Megan and Levi, I’ll never forget your wedding. Not only was it totally “you,” so authentic yet so simple and fun — but I found out some unforgettable news on your big day. Thank you for allowing me to be a part … now for some photos! 🙂

Megan decided to get ready in the basement of her church, and shortly before she arrived, I noticed someone had written a message on one of the chalk boards.

Megan’s father passed away years ago, so she chose to have her brother walk her down the isle. This moment hit a soft spot in my heart — her brother gave her the sweetest hug as Levi waited in the background.

Why should you have your guests blow bubbles as you leave your ceremony and head to the reception? Because it makes your photographer super happy. 🙂

Levi is a farmer, so what better way to head to the reception than, of course, a hay ride!

During his toast, Levi’s brother said when Megan came into the picture, Levi suddenly became “Lover Boy.” Levi bowed his head and laughed, only because he knew it was entirely true. 🙂

As the sun was setting, we decided to take a few relaxed photos with the golf course as a backdrop.

During Megan and Levi’s first dance, they kept giving each other eskimo kisses, which I thought was really special and too darn cute!

Congratulations, Megan and Levi! In case anyone missed my last blog post, check out Megan and Levi’s brand new nephew, Blake!
