Friday’s Frame ~ 34.3 weeks!

Hi friends! I can’t say it’s actually Friday, but I thought I’d check in while I have a few spare minutes. 🙂

As you’ve seen in this post’s title, I’m 34.3 weeks along with our twin boys. (The “.3” is definitely notable at this stage … every day counts!) I’ve gotten quite a few “How are you doing??” messages (thank you!) and a couple “Let me see your belly!” requests (I’d be curious too). So I’ll get right to it …

I’m doing A-OK. I take things one day (sometimes one hour) at a time. My body is very sore. (Carrying two babies is no joke.) I’ve said it all along, but I think the most challenging part of my twin pregnancy has been having a toddler to care for, too. Two-year-olds don’t stop. They don’t sleep in or snuggle on the couch or nap on demand or understand why you can’t stand up and follow them into the kitchen for the 32nd time in 10 minutes. It’s taxing and hard and oh-my-gosh-I-can’t-do-it at times. I think about this past summer when I’d pull up a lawn chair and fight off my constant nausea while watching Gracey play on her swing set. Or when I’d take her for walks this past fall and realize I couldn’t go more than two blocks without feeling Braxton Hicks contractions. These are all issues I never encountered with Gracey’s pregnancy. The past few weeks, though, I’ve been very fortunate to have family members help with Gracey for a few hours most days — it makes a world of difference if I’m just able to lay down and rest my belly. At this point, I simply can’t move at any sort of normal pace. It also means I don’t have to take Gracey with me to my numerous doctor appointments — no one with this belly should be chasing a toddler around a parking lot/waiting room/doctor’s office. It’s like asking for contractions.

And, of course, once Tommy gets home from work each day, it’s Daddy/Gracey time. They build towers and watch Rudolph by the fire and play dolls and color and oh, he has absolutely mastered bath time on his own. Honestly, it’s adorable.

As for the babies — things look good! They are growing right on track and passing their weekly ultrasound tests. I have been having quite a few contractions off and on, and my doctor did give me two steroid shots to help the babies lungs mature (in case the babies come early). If I had to guess, I’d say the twins will be here in about two more weeks!

Tommy took my belly photo this past weekend … this is me, attempting to stand, breathe and not freeze, all at once! I see myself in this picture and think, Oh boy(s) …

(And for any of you photographers who are thinking, “She should have worn a dark sweater against the white snow so I can see her belly better … ” (ahem, Jenny) … come over and go through my closet! Nothing fits except for Tommy’s Cookie Monster t-shirt!) Besides, Gracey says “Pretty mommy” on the days I don’t wear pajama pants. So there. Also, something a bit humorous … click here to see what my belly looked like with one baby (Gracey) inside, just a few years back. Is that even a belly??? I remember thinking how big I felt then! I look at that photo now and say, Where’s the baby?? 🙂

Tommy and I are nervous/excited/anxious/scared/THANKFUL for the next part of this journey to begin. There are so many unknowns as you reach the end of a pregnancy. But there are also a few things I know for sure. In a few short weeks, I won’t be sleeping. (Like ever.) And did I say it was hard being pregnant with twins and parenting a toddler? Ha! As if it will get easier once the boys arrive. But Tommy and I have learned a lot about ourselves the past couple of years — Gracey was not an easy baby. The first one breaks you, they say. 🙂 But she also opened our eyes and hearts to an indescribable love. We are so excited to see our boys’ precious little faces very soon.

As for names? Well, I can tell you what Gracey plans on naming them. One baby will be named “Mommy” and the other baby will be named “Neighbor.” (Tommy laughs and says, “Is there something I should know?”) Too funny. 🙂

A few photos of Gracey from this past weekend’s Packer game …
